Day 8 of Iceland Road Trip - Reykjavik, Iceland

A nice start to the day at Guesthouse Aurora again:

Sun Voyager

On the recommendation of the Cafe Loki staff (since we LOVED their rye bread ice cream), we went to try more Icelandic ice cream at Valdis, but I got distracted by a bakery on my way from the car to the ice cream shop.
17 Sortir had a fantastic display and I saw this little morsel that I had to try:

So I packed up this hazelnut crunch cupcake and took it to go.

So good! It was crunchy on the bottom, hazelnut flavour was infused everywhere and crispy with the meringue on top.

Then I went to Valdis:

Licorice is really big here, but I didn't like either of the licorice ice creams, so I got pistachio and almond.
Yum! But I think I like the gelato version more.

Then we were at the airport, where I picked up a sandwich before my 5 hour flight home:
The I, Caesar was demolished in seconds before boarding my flight. :)

Day 7 of Iceland Road Trip - Reykjavik, Iceland

Another early morning start on the road with the breakfast of Champions in Iceland: Gas Station hot dogs!

Every travel book or website tells you to visit the cafe near Gullfoss for the lamb soup and trust me - the unlimited soup is well worth the trip!
It's hearty and full of meaty lamb and so tasty for 1.950 ISK. There was also a vegetarian option which was white asparagus and really good as well.

When we got back to Reykjavik, we went for pizza near our guesthouse.
Pizza came with cheesy bread. We thought cheesy bread was like cheese sticks, but when we opened the second pizza box:
This was cheesy bread...so many carbs!

Day 6 of Iceland Road Trip - Hredavatnsskáli, Iceland

We grabbed breakfast at Kristjánsbakarí where we picked up a whole assortment of sweets:

They were all pretty good!

My sweet tooth continued at a gas station on our way to Vatnsnes peninsula:

My friends got hot dogs, I got tuxedo cake.

At another gas station: I got a bacon wrapped hot dog (but I prefer the regular ones). 390 ISK

Finally we arrived at Kirkjufell:

Luckily, when we arrived at the hotel at night, their kitchen was still open, so we asked them for hot dogs as a late night snack.

Loaded hot dog!
Definitely better than a gas station hot dog and it hit the spot for a late night dinner/snack.

Day 5 of Iceland Road Trip - Akureyri, Iceland

For more amazing pictures from my Iceland Road Trip, check out my Flickr or Travel Blog.

After a full day of sightseeing, we arrived in Akureyri and decided to eat at Bautinn since they had a few Iceland-only items.

Salad and Soup bar! We were so excited for all these veggies and fruits!

Whale meat 4.800 ISK
It was pretty tough and if you left it for a while, the proteins got even tougher so it required a lot of chewing to finish the last few bites. The lingo berry sauce was a surprisingly good accompaniment.

Fruit Salad from the salad bar (omg so many choices in Iceland!)

Even though we were stuffed from our dinner, we had to go try Brynja for the "best ice cream in Iceland" made with milk not cream.

It was pretty good! Even just the simple vanilla and there was a bit of a line up late at night.

Day 4 of Iceland Road Trip - Egilsstaðir, Iceland

Breakfast at Apotek:
Look! There's cookies!

We had perfect weather on the drive? (Usually Iceland is overcast or rainy).

This rainbow over the Bonus grocery store made me like Bonus a LOT more. We stocked up on snacks and food for our road trip.

We went to Salt Cafe and Bistro for dinner since we were starving and it was near the Bonus grocery store.

Benni's Burger 2.790 ISK - I thought I asked for onion rings instead of fries, but I think the waitress misunderstood me and gave me both. (The onion rings were expensive 😢 900 ISK).

Steak and curry chicken sandwich
The food was okay - it was filling at least.

Day 3 of Iceland Road Trip - Hofn, Iceland

We grabbed a hot dog at a gas station on on route to Hofn

Yum! Those crispy onions were back and I used all of their sauces to see which one was the best.

When we got to Hofn, we asked our host at Apotek Guesthouse about some dinner options. They suggested Hafnarbuðin. It's a quick service restaurant serving sandwiches to locals for reasonable prices (vs. the touristy lobster places selling entrees for double the price).

A sandwich with fries inside!
Langoustine Sandwich
Great sandwich! There was a lot of fried lobster and it was seasoned nicely with a good combination of veggies and sauce. It was also a reasonably priced sandwich considering the other options in town were way more.
