Caffé Demetré

When I think of a place for desserts, I usually think of Caffé Demetré.

Waffles, Ice Cream and Cake - Oh My!

Tongue Depressor Waffle
White chocolate chips, chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, brownies and powdered sugar goodness! Who can resist?
The brownies weren't perfect, but the huge scoop of chocolate ice cream more than compensated.

The Last Straw Waffle
Strawberries, strawberry sauce, honey vanilla ice cream and whipped cream
The honey vanilla ice cream was delicious! The strawberries were a good complement - keeping it simple and classic.

Livin' La Vida Mocha Waffle
Tiramisu goomba ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and cookie crumbles
I really like the flavour of tiramisu, unfortunately, this ice cream didn't really deliver and I think there was cinnamon somewhere in the waffle? Strange...I definitely prefer either of the two above.

Overall: I love waffles and ice cream - you usually can't go wrong with it here at Caffé Demetré.

Hoosier Daddy's BBQ Sandwiches

The Village by the Grange food court has a variety of cheap and filling lunch options.
It's been a while since I've eaten in this area, but I couldn't help noticing a barbeque restaurant right near the McCaul Street entrance. I couldn't resist! I have this tiny little fascination with the South; there's just something about the strongly flavoured food, intriguing culture and charming people that makes it so interesting.

Pulled Pork Sandwich
That's a lot of bun for this sandwich. The barbeque sauce was pretty good, but there just wasn't enough sauce in the pulled pork meat. I wasn't very impressed with the sandwich
Sugar Cream Pie
I love my desserts and I was really wowed by the last sugar pie I had at the Museum Tavern, that I decided to give this sugar cream pie a chance. Unfortunately, the pie was rather bland tasting (except for the cinnamon sugar on top) and the inside had the consistency of jello rather than a smooth creamy texture.

Overall: I like the concept of an authentic BBQ sandwich place, but I don't think this Hoosier Daddy's BBQ Sandwich place is it.

Eat Fresh Be Healthy

Update: Closed in 2016
Dundas Street actually has a lot of delicious lunch options and my friend brought me to one of them for a cheap and quick 3 course prix fixe menu deal:

Spicy Jumbo Shrimp and Spaghetti
I loved the presentation: the colours were so bright and it was a nice way to keep everything portioned. The shrimp were really juicy and delicious with a hint of spiciness and the pasta was flavourful.

Mussels tossed with White Wine Tomato Broth
Yum! I loved the shredded potato strips on top - they were crispy and fresh from the deep fryer. The mussels were really nice in a sweet wine and tomato broth.

Ontario Braised Lamb Ribs
The lamb ribs were cooked in a great combination of spices - savoury, fragrant and tasty. The meat was so tender and the portion was huge! The fresh veggies were nicely grilled and there was a lot of variety and textures.

Cajun Blackened Salmon with Fresh Fruit Salsa
The salmon was a huge portion with a nice Cajun dry rub on top and a moist flaky inside. The fresh fruit salsa was interesting! There was strawberries, papaya, mango, pomegranate seeds - it was just so refreshing, and different from an ordinary salmon dish. I thought it all worked really well together.

Lindt Chocolate Ice cream
You could definitely taste the Lindt chocolate in the ice cream. Fresh berries and waffle shards were a nice complement

Espresso Panna Cotta
I usually don't like panna cotta, but this was really good. The ground espresso beans added a cool texture to the jelly panna cotta - it would have been a bit nicer if the panna cotta was firmer.

Overall: Really delicious lunch at Eat Fresh Be Healthy! The $20 prix fixe menu is a great deal because the portions are huge, delicious and fresh. You definitely get your money's worth here.
