Pi Co.

July 29, 2020
The Pi Co. app promotion ($10 off $25+ order) also has free delivery for the month of July!
Craft your own $14: pesto, white sauce, fior di latte, parmesan, shredded mozzerella, arugula, broccoli, eggplant, chicken, sausage, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, spinach
The whole pizza was a lot sweeter with the fior di latte and alfredo sauce, but there was a bit of a spicy kick from the sausage. I really like it.

Craft your own with California tomatoes, pesto, fior di latte, parmesan, shredded mozzarella, arugula, bacon, black forest ham, basil, fried eggplant, grilled chicken, mushroom and sun dried tomatoes
The pizza was kind of salty from a combination of the toppings, but still tasted pretty good.

July 14, 2020

Pi Co. has a promotion going on with their new app where if you order through their app, you can get $10 off orders of $25 or more.
Craft Yours Regular Dough Pizzas $14
Top pizza: California tomato, pesto sauce, ham, grilled chicken, turkey, sundried tomato, arugula, fresh basil, kalamata olive, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, mushrooms.
Bottom: roast garlic, chorizo, bacon, red onion, banana peppers, mushroom, spicy soppressata,  chicken, pepperoni, sausage

The top pizza was loaded with toppings and was quite heavy. The pizza was actually kind of spicy and salty with the olives and meat. The crust was nice and doughy, but it was pretty thin in the middle and not fully baked through probably from the loaded toppings.

Fior di latte, parmesan, shredded mozzarella, pesto, California tomato sauce, roasted red peppers, chicken, ground sausage, broccoli, arugula, fried eggplant
I love that they offer fior di latte - it's a nice sweet and creamy cheese that tastes delicious melted on pizza and I think it helps make the pizzas less spicy (if you have any spicy ingredients like maybe the California tomato sauce). My overall impression of the pizza was that it was on the sweet side, most likely because of the fior di latte and roasted red peppers - but it was still delicious. I feel like I ordered a lot of toppings but didn't get a loaded pizza like the first one up top - there was only one broccoli floret and I couldn't really find the eggplant.

March 14, 2020
Pi Co.'s pizza day is a great deal! You get any pizza (any one of their specialty pizzas or create your own with unlimited toppings) for $3.14 (limited one per person). It's only valid from 11am to 3:14pm - so we thought going around 2:30pm would be okay. There was still a bit of a lineup, but it wasn't too terrible.
San Marzano sauce (great tomato flavour), roasted red peppers, chicken, onions, pesto sauce, fior di latte cheese (balls of deliciousness), mozzarella and arugula on top
Really good pizza! I really liked the tomato sauce and the fior di latte - definitely get those two!

Crushed California tomatoes (not as heavy on the tomato flavour), prosciutto, ham, pepperoni, mozzarella and arugula on top.
The crushed tomato sauce was a nice idea, but it didn't really translate well on the pizza if you like pizzas with lots of sauce and flavour.

Bean House

July 25, 2020

Sakura Rose Red Bean Cake and Osmanthus Mung Bean Cake ($11.99 each)

I loved the fresh adzuki (red bean) cakes last time with the sakura and rose floral scents - it's delicious and such a nice healthy treat to eat (especially while watching historical Chinese dramas since I can now eat the same cakes as the actors!).
The osmanthus mung brean cake had red bean paste in the middle and a very light osmanthus scent, but it was mostly red bean flavour with a mung bean outside. While nice, it wasn't as outstanding as the red bean cake.

June 15, 2020
When I was picking up Korean food at Yummy BBQ a while ago, I noticed that there was a new restaurant/food store in the plaza. I googled it and found out they serve bean cakes (perfect timing since I've been wanting to try Chinese style bean cakes after watching so many Chinese historical dramas with characters eating these).
Original Assorted, Adzuki bean with sakura rose flavour and yellow pea cakes ($30 total)
The bean cakes are made fresh with no added preservatives

Adzuki bean with sakura rose cakes
These beancakes were really good with a sweet fragrant flavour from the sakura and rose. They were also beautiful shaped like roses and they tasted really nice and sweet with a smooth texture.

Yellow Pea cakes
The yellow pea cakes had a chunkier texture than the other bean cakes and it had a decent yellow pea flavour. Not my favourite though since I don't really like peas.

Original Assorted: brown lentil, dark kidney bean, yellow pea, green pea, light kidney bean and red lentil cake
My favourites were the dark kidney bean, which had a strong kidney bean flavour and was quite tasty, and the red lentil, which was sweet, smooth and flavourful and had a grainy texture.
The light kidney bean was okay, but the flavour of the bean was more subtle and light. The brown lentil was okay too with a strong lentil flavour and a smooth texture. The green pea was probably my least favourite since I wasn't a big fan of the pea flavour and the grainier texture.

Oishiii Sweets Cafe

Oishiii Sweets Cafe has reduced hours and they're open Thursday - Sundays during the Covid pandemic.
Yuzu cheesecake, Milk Tea cheesecake and Earl Grey cheesecake ($5.25 each)

The cheesecakes got a little melted on their way home and it especially didn't bode well for the yuzu cake. The yuzu cake had a jelly layer and a sweet tangy citrus flavour with soft cheesecake, but it didn't really stand out to me. The milk tea cake had a good strong milk tea flavour and I almost thought it was more of a mousse cake than a cheesecake since the texture was softer and fluffier. The earl grey cake had a really good tea flavour as well.

Milk Tea Cheesecake Tart, ube mochi muffin and pandan mochi muffin ($3 each)
I bought the muffins mostly because I wanted to eat something with good ube and pandan flavour, but it ended up tasting more like mochi with that gummy glutinous rice flavour and it didn't really have a strong ube or pandan flavour.

Milk Tea cheesecake Tart $5.25
The tart shell was okay, but it was a little weaker than the typical cookie crust. The milk tea cheese was pretty good - I prefer the tarts over the cheesecake slices.

Shing Kee Kitchen

Shing Kee Kitchen Menu
July 20, 2020
Sweet and sour pork, spicy pork chops and braised pork belly with preserved vegetables
We got a dinner for two with the sweet and sour pork and spicy pork chops (and it comes with a rice and soup which aren't pictured here) and a braised pork belly with preserved vegetable with rice.
Shing Kee Kitchen has one of the best braised pork belly with preserved vegetable dishes in Toronto. The meat is a good combination of fatty (which is great for flavour) and lean (perfect for pork belly lovers). The dish has great flavour, and would have been even better this time with more sauce.
The sweet and sour pork is delicious as usual and the spicy pork chops are also a favourite here.

May 31, 2020
Sweet and Sour Pork with pineapples and beef and broccoli
The sweet and sour pork was really tasty with the sweetness from the pineapples and slightly tangy sauce. The chef at Shing Kee Kitchen also does a really delicious thin slices of cooked beef and the sauce is simple and great.

Braised fish, tofu and vegetables
The fish had a lot of breading, but it was still pretty tasty. There was also a lot of tofu, but not as many vegetables. It feels like it's been a long time since I've had Chinese style fish - so this was really nice.

May 3, 2020
Beef chow fun (beef hor-fun), sweet and sour pork with pineapples and eggplant, pork and tofu
Delicious Cantonese food! The beef hor-fun noodles are really tasty and they gave us a lot of sauce to mix the noodles with. (And of course, we got our staple sweet and sour pork and eggplant, pork and tofu - in my opinion, they're some of the best and cheapest Chinese dishes you can get in Toronto)

Apr 6, 2020
Our favourite food court is still open for take-out during the COVID-19 pandemic! As a matter of fact, some of these food court stalls (I've seen Hongxing and Rainbow Food) have even started moving onto online platforms like UberEats.
Eggplant, pork and tofu and sweet and sour pork with pineapples
Dinner for two combo with these two dishes, soup and a box of rice for $15 ($7.50 per dish). We called ahead for pick up and got our food really quickly. It's great that our favourite places are still open and serving us delicious and yummy food especially during these trying times. It's really important to continue to support local businesses!

February 22, 2020
I love this food court because the food is cheap and delicious and the service is fast. All four of the options here are great and they keep their prices low to stay competitive. I've written about Hongxing, but I can't believe I haven't written about Shing Kee Kitchen's Cantonese food.
It's the corner food court stall and lots of people regularly get food there. They have a lot of dinner specials.

Beef and Kai-Lan Stir Fry Noodles
The beef is always well done and the kai-lan is crisp with a good bite to it. The sauce for the stir fry is really good and its usually poured on last so that the crispy noodles underneath don't get soggy. Personally, I prefer noodles with lots of sauce, so I love soggy noodles, but the way they cook this dish, you can have the best of both worlds if you like crispy noodles too.

Metro @ Bayview and York Mills

July 21, 2020
I can't believe I've never noticed the full list of toppings here before: they have pineapple and roasted red peppers.

Metro X-Large Pizza $9.99 with three toppings - chicken, sausage and mushrooms

They cut the slices pretty big and there's loads of toppings on the x-large pizza (chicken and sausage here are two of my favourites as you can probably tell and I tend to mix up the third topping).
The pizza crust tends to be a thick doughy crust and they bake it in their pizza oven in the Fresh to Go section in about 20 minutes. There's also a generous portion of cheese and sauce on the pizzas.

June 19, 2020
The search for good key lime pie continues! Metro had a sale on their Irresistible's Key Lime Pie
Irresistibles Cream or Key Lime Pie - $7.99
It was a good key lime pie that was more sweet than tart. The whipped cream also helps cut the tartness of the pie and it had a strong key lime flavour with a nice pie crust.

May 14, 2020
Metro is back with their 3 topping large pizza deal for $9.99. We called in advance and went to pickup (instead of waiting in line to get into the grocery store and waiting around in the grocery store for 20 minutes). It was pretty quick around lunch, there were a few people in line to get into the grocery store (to respect social distancing rules) and then I got my pizza in minutes and was out of the store in no time at all.
Chicken, mushroom and sausage pizza
Yummy! They put on lots of chicken and sausage.

June 14, 2018
It almost seems like the pizza got bigger - and it's still the same price on sale $9.99 for a 3 topping pizza!

October 7, 2017
Metro is offering a promotion this week: Three topping large pizza for $9.99. The toppings are also a lot more substantial than most pizza places - so I jumped on this deal!

Top pizza: chicken strips, mixed peppers (green and red) and sausage (a little spicy)
Bottom: Chicken, ground beef and mushrooms
I really like their pizza crust at Metro - it's delicious and when they bake it long enough in the oven, there's a nice crispy bottom. They also put a lot of toppings, cheese and sauce on their pizzas which is great! I prefer this to the chain restaurants like Pizza Pizza and Dominos.

May 9, 2017
Metro is a grocery store in Canada and they have a Fresh2Go daily special every day of the work week (Monday to Friday). Wednesday is the 16 inch pizza with cheese or pepperoni.
Pepperoni pizza
They have a really good dough - which makes a really good crust and they have a good pizza oven to get the nice even crispy crust all around. The pizza was really good and it was only $7.99 (a steal)!

November 6, 2015
Unfortunately, the prices for the 3 topping panzerotti have gone up - but only by $1 (so it's now $6).

This was the cutest panzerotti I've ever seen and I had to take a photo and post it.
It's so perfectly shaped and folded. Also, delicious as usual!

April 16, 2015
I'm so glad that Metro is still running the $5 for a 3 topping Panzerotti promotion!
I was passing by this Metro and I picked up a $5 panzerotti (and this time I took a picture of the size of it compared to a pen)

Crazy!
So much tomato sauce, chicken, ground beef, onions and cheese in this panzarotti!

Still delicious and still worth the trip here!

100% Korean

July 16, 2020

I really like the lunch boxes here: it's a foodie's dream with a little bit of everything.
Chicken and Beef lunch boxes with rice, chap chae, lotus root, kimchi, fried mandu, seaweed, hard boiled egg, fishcake and other side dishes
The spicy chicken had a bigger portion than the beef and was really yummy. The beef was also really good with lots of flavour and vegetables.

May 25, 2020
Spicy chicken lunch box with assorted daily side dishes, mandu, rice, chap chae and kimchi

Apr 25, 2020

Spicy Pork and Beef Lunch Boxes
There was a lot of variety in the side dishes: fish cake, tteokbokki, chap chae, seaweed, kimchi, mandu (fried dumplings), beansprouts. It was all really tasty. The beef was also really flavourful and seasoned well. The pork was good too, but I definitely prefer their beef.

Lunch boxes and extra side dishes of burdock, seaweed, fishcake and chap chae (to go with our regular pork bone soup order which wasn't pictured)

April 11, 2020
100% Korean is open for take-out! We called our order in advance and just went to pick it up.
Menu

Gamjatang or Pork Bone Soup with side dishes: shredded marinated burdock and potato salad
Super delicious take-out portion of pork bone soup. The soup was spicy and flavourful.

Chicken on rice
A good balance of vegetables and seasoned chicken on rice.

Beef lunch box
There was a lot of food in the lunch box! A whole variety of their yummy side dishes like tofu, fish cake, seaweed, chap chae and also two mandu (fried dumplings), half a hard boiled egg, purple rice and a lot of delicious marinated beef.

Special Combo for 2 (#6)
Bean paste soup
Really hearty and perfect for winter! It was a little on the spicy side, but it was super tasty.

Spicy pork belly with vegetables
Delicious sauce! The pork belly was fantastic and there was some crunch from the cabbage slaw, which was really nice.

Dumplings and three side dishes: chapchae, fishcake and lotus root - all delicious
The fried mandu were really nice and crispy with glass noodles and meat inside.

Mar 1, 2019

Pork bone soup and three side dishes (seaweed, fishcake and lotus root)
The pork bone soup is delicious! The perfect amount of spiciness and really flavourful. There was also a lot of meat on the pork bone. I think 100 percent Korean has now become my favourite gamjatang place.

Short Rib lunch box
Wow, this is a lot of food. Chapchae, fishcake, kimchi, mandu, rice (in a star shape), choy, lotus root.
Everything was really yummy!

Special Combo #2: Bibimbap, Jajang Udon noodle and spicy sweet chicken and three choices for side dishes
The food was really good in general, but I didn't think they were the best Korean dishes I've ever had - the bibimbap was really good especially with all the toppings. The jajang udon and spicy sweet chicken were okay. Of everything, the side dishes were exceptionally good - the tofu and lotus root were really yummy.
