Sushi House

My coworker told me about this Sushi place on Dundas that serves up a $4.99 sushi lunch with a drink and I knew I had to go check it out since that sounds like a great deal!

When we got there, there was a huge line. It was mostly people waiting for their $4.99 take out lunches and was a mix of young professionals and students since you get two rolls with a drink.

Spicy salmon roll and Avocado Chicken
The spicy salmon was okay, but I would pass on the avocado chicken - something about it just didn't seem right (either the sweet sauce on top or the fact that it was terribly wrapped). However, for $4.99, it was really cheap and filling - you get what you pay for.

Little India

I've had Little India's lunch buffet on my to-eat list for a while, so when I was in the neighbourhood, I dragged my friend to lunch here!
Salad, rogan josh (beef), butter chicken, aloo gobhi (cauliflower) and a spring roll
It was pretty busy despite our late lunch hour and the food was still coming out of the kitchen. The food was pretty tasty and we got to try everything (which is my favourite part of buffets). For $16.95, we got a lot of food.

Pakoras, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, chana masala (chickpeas)
The tandoori chicken was really good as were their sauces for the chana masala and tikka masala and I liked that their rice was slightly flavoured with saffron to make it more aromatic.

Ice cream! A nice way to finish off all of that yummy Indian food!

Overall: The all you can eat lunch buffet at Little India was pretty good and it's good value for money (especially downtown)! The food was good and the service was great too since they cleared everything promptly.

Two Dishes Cookshop - Peterborough (ON)

After watching John Catucci eat huge portions of delicious-looking food at the Two Dishes Cookshop in You've Gotta Eat Here - we wanted to try it out. So we went to Peterborough (it was on our way east of Toronto).

Pimento Patty Melt
(As seen on You've Gotta Eat Here! It's a sirloin patty with pimento cheese and a side of salad)
It was huge and really very yummy! It had the right proportion of toasted bread, oozy cheese and meat with a really delicious and bright salad on the side.

Po' Boy with shrimp, coleslaw and chips
It was pretty good with lots of sauce and very tasty shrimp. The chips had their own onion dip which was kinda nice, but it was a little too onion-y.

Cookshop Classic with bacon, crispy potatoes, toast and an egg
The potatoes were pretty good and the bacon was crispy.

Carrot Cake on the top and a Lime Bar

The side view
The carrot cake was pretty good, but I wasn't really a fan of the toasted coconut topping on top. The lime bar was the BEST lime bar I've ever had - the lime custard wasn't too sweet and it had a great balance of the meringue without overwhelming the entire bar and the crust was really yummy. I would drive back to Peterborough just for this lime bar.

Overall: It was a good meal at Two Dishes Cookshop, but it was kind of far from Toronto. I'd make the trip for the Lime Bar because it was that stellar.
