Amsterdam

Amsterdam... what more do I need to say?

Picturesque canals

Red light district (during the day since you're not allowed to take pictures at night)

And now the food:
Cafe Luxembourg (Website: http://www.luxembourg.nl/nl/index3.php)

Two filet of halibut courses and a rump steak meal. The fish was seasoned with salt and pepper and sprinkled with lemon juice. It was a good meal - but nothing too outstanding here and the prices were rather steep (approximately €17 excluding tax and tip)

The Pancake Corner in Leidseplein
The outside of the restaurant said "Pancake Corner" on the second level - however, the restaurant was actually a Sports Cafe...things are really confusing in Amsterdam

My friend got the Dutch Meatballs with Gravy and I got the Mexican Pancake with chicken, mushrooms, pineapple and more (refer to menu in the website link). The pancake was nicely done: thin and not too much flour on it, but the stuff inside? very strange combination adding pineapples into a "Mexican" dish. The Canadian pancake was even weirder: bacon, ham, mushrooms, cheese and curry sauce - I have no idea what the Dutch think we eat - but they clearly don't know what type of food grows in each country (seriously? curry sauce in Canada?). The service was also super slow since there was only one waitress for the entire second floor. My friend's dutch meatballs tasted like the Swedish meatballs from Ikea (in Toronto) and they weren't even as good as those meatballs. The meals were more moderately priced €11.50 for the pancakes and €7.50 for the meatballs (but in comparison to Canadian prices - yikes! double what we would pay for here since the exchange rate was like $1.42 CAD for 1 Euro)
Conclusion: Not very good at the Pancake Corner (although it is centrally located in Leidseplein)

(Albert Heijn store in Zaanse Schans)

 Other food: Albert Heijn snacks
Albert Heijn is a Dutch Grocery store with a ton of great food! The pastas were ok - nothing memorable, but the profiteroles were great! We got them on a recommendation from a friend in Amsterdam and they were really good! Definitely worth a try!
