Huge matzo ball in the soup and it was kind of fluffy. I liked the chicken broth with vegetables.

Spicy pork bulgogi

Big portion of spicy pork and there was a lot of salad and rice which made it pretty filling. It was also surprisingly reasonably priced for the Yorkville area.

The lamb was delicious: nicely roasted and not too gamey. The potatoes and tzatziki were really good too, but the portion was way too small for the price.

Crossing-the-bridge noodles have recently been really popular in Toronto. The dish is served with a large bowl of hot broth and separate soup ingredients.

Tokyo Bowl 

I'm not too sure what this bowl is supposed to be, but there were a lot of toppings on top and not a lot of the actual meat (salmon or crab) in the bowl. They were trying to do too much with the miso, wasabi, sesame seeds, enoki, edamame, avocado (barely), cucumber, seaweed salad, tamago and pickled ginger.

Chicken and mushroom in a tomato cream sauce. The pasta sauce was pretty good and it was a decent sized portion for lunch.

Mi'hito Sushi Laboratory

Half salmon poke bowl with brown rice, spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce and assorted toppings. $7.99

Great brown rice with a nice hint of vinegar. Topping wise: the peaches were interesting, salmon was good and seaweed was delicious. I liked the half portion - it was enough food. Overall: very yummy and kinda healthy.

Goat curry roti

The roti was really good because the goat curry was really flavourful. Unfortunately, I also found it got spicier the more I ate. 

Fried Chicken

Sansimian has some daily specials: Tuesday is fried chicken for $8. The chicken had good flavour, but unfortunately since it was at the end of the day, it kind of dried out.

Oxtail and Jerk Chicken with coleslaw and rice and peas

The oxtail was REALLY good and they gave us quite a large portion. The oxtail was tender and tasty with a slightly sweet taste and it was paired with some fluffy rice & peas. The jerk chicken was good too, but I like the jerk chicken at Ritz better because it's not as spicy and the spice rub is just a tad better. The coleslaw helped to offset the spiciness of the jerk chicken here.

Souvlaki House

The Grange has some really good cheap deals for lunch.

Bubble tea, tea and beef noodle soup

The beef noodle soup was pretty good with delicious rice noodles and slices of marinated beef. Their tea by itself is pretty good too.

Taro Milk Bubble Tea 

The bubble tea places are comparable in price at First Markham Place and they're all around $2-3. All the places use powder to make their bubble tea (which is understandable considering the cost).  However, of the places I've tried, I liked the tea flavour from Tan Good Yun the best. 

Sam's Congee Delight

Sam's Congee Delight was super popular at Market Village (before it was torn down). The restaurant moved to a new location on Woodbine.

Super colourful bowls!

Make your own Poke bowl with salmon, cucumber, purple potato, tamago, tobiko, lotus root and more. 

The teriyaki mayo was great and the whole poke bowl tasted fantastic! The ingredients were fresh and they were pretty unique and Asian. I would definitely recommend Rolltation for fresh poke bowls.

Hidden away on a side street one block over from Yonge street is Cabano's Comfort Food serving classic sandwiches. 

Original Fried Chicken Sandwich

I was a little skeptical a first because it was a chicken sandwich with mayo, lettuce and pickles and I really don't like pickles. I fully expected to have to take out the pickles, but surprisingly, the sandwich actually tasted better with the salty briny (former) cucumbers. The sandwich was fantastic!

Tonkostu soy milk tsuke soba (cold)

The whole presentation of this dish looked amazing! The soy milk and soba was as good cold as it was hot, but I prefer it hot.

Kitsune soba and unagi ochazuke

The kitsune soba was pretty good, but it had a citrusy flavour with the yuzu which was different and kind of strange. The unagi was really good though. 

Tonkostu Soy milk tsuke soba (hot)

REALLY good - the soy milk flavour was an excellent compliment to the soba, but it was kind of heavy.

Japanese matcha souffle pancakes - these were REALLY good pancakes. Souffle pancakes are light and airy and this one had great matcha flavour that also went well with the syrup and ice cream selections (roasted tea, vanilla and matcha) - Delicious!

We came back to try their oxtail, but their oxtail wasn't as tender or flavourful as Sansimian's. It's a pretty sizable portion though.

Jerk Chicken with vegetables and rice & peas

Good saucy jerk chicken that was tender and juicy; also, the sauce was pretty good. I wasn't as big a fan of their long grain rice & peas and steamed vegetables, but the fried plantains were good.
