Freshly Squeezed

Honeydew milk tea
I ordered a honeydew milk tea thinking that it would be like any other bubble tea place in Toronto, a mix of honeydew powder, milk and tea. However, it turned out to be a honeydew slushie. I'm not sure where the tea went, but I guess this would be super refreshing in the summer.

Illy Caffe

Pistachio cheesecake and Orange ricotta cheesecake
I liked the orange ricotta cheesecake more than the pistachio cheesecake. I have high expectations for pistachio desserts since it's my favourite nut and it's really hard to do well. So when I'm impressed by a pistachio dessert, it would be because it's really good.

Pistachio cannoli
Ricotta cannoli dipped in pistachios at the ends. It was okay, I think I still prefer the fresh cannoli at Agincourt Bakery.

Alexandros Take-Out

Chicken gyros in a pita
Alexandros kept it simple: meat, tomatoes and tzatziki in a grilled pita. There was a lot of meat in the gyros wrap, but taste and flavourwise, I prefer Souv Like.

San Remo Bakery

Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich and Porchetta Sandwich
The chicken parmigiana sandwich was pretty good, it could have used a bit more tomato sauce in my opinion (I'll ask next time). The porchetta was REALLY good, I think it's better than Porchetta & Co. The pork had excellent flavour and they included bits of crackling.

Penne pasta
The tomato sauce was really good - it wasn't too sour or too sweet. I think they might do a good lasanga (something to try next time).

Tiramisu $4.50 and Apple Crumble Tart $3.99
Their tiramisu was so good! It's comparable to my #1 Tiramisu place, Paese, and it's a fraction of the price there. If only San Remo wasn't so far on the west end of Toronto, I'd probably visit them once a week or more just for their tiramisu. The La Rocca apple crumble tart had a little too much crumble and not enough apple.

Lobster Tail
Super flaky lobster tail pastry with delicious cream inside.

Lemon cookie - really nice soft cookie

Sicilian cake slice $3.99
This was the surprise of the day - it was the best dessert we had here! The slice of cake was so good we contemplated getting one more slice for the road, but we were worried about it melting in the car since. The pear was really nice and the ricotta filling was delicious. The crust was perfect too. I would definitely recommend a slice of their ricotta cakes if you visit here.

Sahan

The restaurant was really busy, but we managed to snag a small table.
Vegetable soup and mango nectar
The soup had a pretty gamey lamb taste and a kind of grainy texture.

Beef stew on rice
The spice mix with the beef and onions was very different from anything I'm used to (since I usually eat Asian cuisine). It was pretty interesting and it was a pretty big portion.
They ran out of tea, so we didn't get anything at the end of our meal.

Makkal Chon

Oct 6, 2019
Spicy Rice cakes are a side dish! The pumpkin was really good too.
I think the service got worse this time around, the waiters and waitresses ignored us multiple times when we asked for napkins or more side dishes. They also kept telling us that they ran out of side dishes, but we would see them serving other tables more side dishes.

Spicy chicken

Pork belly and spicy chicken
The food was good, but the service was pretty bad. I'm not sure I'll come back unless they improve their service.

Dec 8, 2018
After eating Korean BBQ with lettuce wraps, I wanted to find a place in Toronto that also did lettuce wraps and through Yelp, I found Makkal Chon.

Assorted side dishes: burdock, green beans, chap chae, beansprouts, kimchi, pickled cucumber and eggplant. The side dish variety was pretty good and they let you refill a few of the dishes.

Pork Belly and Spicy Chicken with the vegetables for wrapping.
The white cabbages were really wet and soggy (almost like they were just defrosted), but the other vegetables were fine. The pork belly was really good. The spicy chicken had good flavour.

Soon Tofu soup
The soup was okay, but the soup at Buk Chang Dong Soon is much better.

Maggie Moose Fine Fudge & Boutique - Port Hope

Delicious fudge! They let you sample all of their fudges (which are low-sugar) except for their Magic Moose fudge. The Magic Moose fudge has everything: peanut butter, s'mores, marshmallow, chocolate, fudge, caramel - it's like 3 different fudges in one. It's really good. I also really liked their sugar free maple chocolate fudge, it didn't have a lot of added sugar and it was naturally sweet from the maple syrup. Yummy!

Olympus Burger - Port Hope

Salmon Run in Port Hope

We had lunch at one of the best burger places in Canada: Olympus Burger.

Poutine with cheese curds and beef gravy $5.95

King Midas with pita bread, beef patty, tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato and onions. $8.50
I think something gets lost when you eat a beef patty without a burger bun; for some reason, it just doesn't taste as good. The pita was okay, but I didn't think their tzatziki sauce was that great.

Ares - peppercorn beef patty, bacon, caramelized onion, mushrooms, bbq sauce, lettuce and tomato $10.25

Zeus - beef patty, bacon, onions, mushrooms, white cheddar cheese, bbq sauce, lettuce tomato $11.25
This burger was the best of out the ones we tried. It was juicy and the melted cheese, crispy bacon and sweet onions went well with the bbq sauce and meat.

Mogouyan

A new hand-pulled noodle place near Yonge and Bloor.

Mogouyan Classic Beef Noodles with flat noodles (one spicy pepper)
The noodles were pretty good, but not as good as GB Hand Pulled Noodles. It also wasn't very spicy at all, I actually wanted to add more spiciness to it to give it more flavour.

Summit Suite Buffet at Skylon Tower - Niagara Falls

Summit Suite Buffet

Mussels, calamari, pasta, crab salad, beef and more

Prime rib, macaroni salad, penne and farfalle pasta

Tiramisu, chocolate birthday cake, cheese, cupcakes and fruit
There were a lot of tour groups coming in and out of Skylon Tower, so the buffet was constantly busy. The food ran out pretty fast, but because we were there longer, we got a chance to try everything they offered. It was okay for the most part, we really just wanted the free ride up to the top of the tower for $44.95.
