After lunch in Taipei, we took a winding journey on the east coast of Taiwan to Hualien
Very Scenic with views of the Central Mountain Range on one side and the Cliffs to the Ocean on the other
(and a little scary since the roads were winding and the bus was moving pretty fast)
We also stopped by Jiufen Old Street at the top of the mountain:
And got a little taste of what the night markets would feel like:
Busy with lots of stuff to see and eat!
Eventually we made it to our restaurant in Hualien for dinner
Eventually we made it to our restaurant in Hualien for dinner
Fish cakes in a sweet sauce
Stir fry pork
Cabbage and scrambled eggs with vegetables
Beef and carrot dish and soy sauce fish
Dinner was okay, nothing really stood out. It was edible, but nothing like the rave reviews I've heard about Taiwanese food so far.
We had the buffet breakfast at the Liga hotel. The hotel was really old and had big rooms, old furnishings, an un-separated shower area in the washroom and a kitchen area
At least breakfast looked appetizing...
Clockwise from top left: mantou, sponge cake, eggs, spicy cucumbers, beef & radishes, noodles, green onion pancake, watercress, turnip cake
The food was okay and there was a lot of variety for breakfast
More sponge cakes and watermelon and guava
