Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ

Dec 17, 2020
We stumbled upon Gyu Kaku when exploring the Ubereats BOGO deals and everything seemed like a really good deal!
Clockwise from top left: Umakara Beef Bowl $14.50 (x2), Steamed Chili Dumplings $8.45 (x2), Japanese Fried Chicken Karaage $8.95 (x2), Gyu Kaku salad (came with the bowls), Chicken Karaage Bowl $14.50 (x2)
Umakara beef: the beef was surprisingly sweet and the rice bowl had a delicious sweet onion sauce as well - a different way of eating beef as I haven't had a lot of sweet beef.
Chili Dumplings: the dumplings were pretty good and the sweet chili oil was not too spicy and really tasty which made it the perfect complement to the simple dumplings. I think this might be some of the best chili oil I've ever had.
Chicken Karaage: The fried chicken wasn't that crispy (maybe due to the late pick-up) and there was quite a bit of breaded skin. The spicy mayo was really good though.
Chicken Karaage Bowl: Pretty good, but I wish there was more spicy mayo to go around with the cabbage and rice since there was so much of those two in the bowl.
The Gyu Kaku salad was pretty good too and came with half a hard boiled egg and lots of fresh vegetables like cucumber, spinach, mixed greens, daikon, cabbage, cherry tomatoes, tomatoes - the dressing was quite heavy though.
