While the 30% off cash take-out promotion was still going on, I picked up dinner at Katsuya
Chicken Katsu ($11.06 with discount pre-tax) and Fish Katsu ($11.06 with discount pre-tax)
The fish was pretty good with a crunchy outside coating and a nice flaky and tender flesh. I also got the original and sweet chili sauces and love both of those sauces since they are so tasty. The original sauce has more of a tomato flavour, while the sweet chili has a mild heat with a sweet and tangy side - both highly recommended!

Takoyaki
Pretty fluffy balls of batter with a tiny bit of octopus inside topped with tobiko, mayo, takoyaki sauce (which is a little sour and tangy from the Worcestershire sauce).
Pork Loin and Chicken Katsu
It's kinda hard to get pork tender (they seem to always run out especially during this 30% off promotion). You can always count on Katsuya (especially even more so now with the 30% off promo) to deliver a great value, filling & delicious katsu meal!
Oct 28, 2020 @ First Markham Place
We called in an order at Katsuya Markham while they still had the 30% off promotion and got the pork loin (they ran out of the pork tender cut). They said it would take about a 1/2 hour (which is a longer wait than usual) and it ended up taking a bit longer since there were a lot of orders.
Sweet chili Pork Loin Katsu $11.65 (and tax)
The portion was a lot smaller than the previous portions of katsu we had at the Sheppard location and it wasn't as crispy as the other locations - it almost seemed like it sat out for a while even though we waited for it inside the store. We also paid extra for the sauce, but the portion of the sauce wasn't quite enough for dipping.

We came back to try even more menu items while they were still doing 30% off promo with cash payment.
Sweet Potato Cheese Pork loin $12.57 with discount and Chicken Carbonara Katsu $13.13 with discount
Sweet potato cheese katsu had a lot going on - it was kind of mushy from the sweet potato and there was a strange bacon/ham strip inside that wasn't as easy to eat as the rest of the katsu which made for inconsistent textures with each bite. It was a bit of a mushy and gooey mess with the cheese as well. I wouldn't get this again - I really didn't like the weird ham/bacon strip the most.
Chicken carbonara was just two katsu filets and some carbonara sauce on the side which you can pour on top. The chicken was pretty crispy with the breading and the carbonara sauce was pretty good! It was very creamy alfredo sauce with bacon flavour and a hint of spiciness from the Italian sausage.
Kaarage Chicken thighs 1lb $9.67 with discount, Croquette $4.73 with discount, Takoyaki (octopus balls) $4.17 with discount
The kaarage came with savoury and salty chips under the chicken and there were a few sauces as well including wasabi mayo, sweet chili sauce (which reminded me of the sweet and sour chicken sauce at Korean places with a little heat) and sweet teriyaki sauce. All three sauces were tasty and paired nicely with the juicy fried chicken. I will definitely try the sweet chili katsu after this!
Croquette was pretty good with lots of sweet shrimp and potato inside and super crispy outside fro contrast. It had good potato and seafood flavour and worked well with the tartar sauce (which also had horseradish) which added a nice tanginess that brought out the flavour more.
Takoyaki were deliciously crispy outside and had a contrasting mushy inside with a piece of oyster. It also came with a nice salty sauce on top - the Katsuya version also had a ton of bonito flakes.

Katsuya is running a 30% off promotion with cash payment during the covid-19 lockdown, so it's a great time to try out all the expensive items on their menu that you wouldn't normally get.
Original Chicken Katsu $11.03 and Original Cheese Katsu $11.73
Excellent original sauce with tomato and Japanese worchestershire sauce - it's not too sweet and really delicious with a slightly heavier tomato taste.
The pork and cheese katsu was good with one piece of pork loin paired with melted oozy cheese and crispy crunchy breading on top. The chicken katsu had two pieces of meat, but flavour-wise, it was more bland than the pork.
The salad was pretty yummy too. I would definitely get this again before the promotion expires!

Cheese Katsu with Katsuya Original sauce (pork loin with mozzarella)
The Katsuya original sauce is really good - the menu says that they make it with 5 seasonal fruits, 10 vegetables and 6 organic herbs. Whatever it is, it's one of the best katsu sauces I've tried. I also loved the oozy mozzarella cheese with the katsu.
