When Hung Food Cooking made Toronto Life's best cheap eats in Toronto list, I went to go try it out. 

There's no English names at the food court, so I ended up buying the fried chicken on rice at the place on the left in July and tried the place on the left in August.

The fried chicken here was much better, but it was on white rice. 

Both portions were big and filling.

Chocolate vegan ice cream

There was definitely a difference between regular dairy ice cream and vegan ice cream. However, the chocolate flavour was strong compensate for some of the cream flavour.

Hazelnut and Pistachio gelato

A refreshing snack on a hot day. It was okay gelato, but I've had better hazelnut and pistachio gelato at other places before.

Summer in Yorkville! This usually means gelato breaks instead of coffee breaks on hot days: 

Pistachio and Hazelnut Gelato

They don't let you sample the pistachio before you buy it, but I tend to use the pistachio gelato to gauge whether the gelateria is good or not. This one was good, but I've had better (I love the one at Hollywood Gelato - but I haven't been in a while since the location is a little far and not really TTC accessible). The gelato here is a little on the pricey side too - which makes sense since it is Yorkville.

Strawberry milkshake

It's great that they make their own ice cream and dairy products here! The strawberry milkshake was pretty good. I think I'll try to be more adventurous next year since they have some interesting flavours.

Fresh Water Eel sushi

Delicious! Freshwater eel has tiny bones, but you could barely notice them with this sushi.

Chirashi Bowl

So good! There was so much variety of fish in this sashimi bowl and it was all really fresh and tasty.

I've wanted to try Japango's lunch for years now! I heard great things about their lunch specials and how delicious their sushi was. I finally got the chance to meet up with a friend here for lunch. 

Sashimi bento $16

Those are some big pieces of sashimi! The fish was fresh and yummy. I was a little disappointed by the small portions of side dishes (the pickled radish and carrots, green beans and seaweed salad were rather sad). It was all very nicely presented on the box. 

Japango roll $14

Torched fish on top of the roll and a very nicely wrapped sushi roll. It was really good with the sauce and roe on top.

Overall: Delicious sushi at Japango, but it's definitely on the expensive side. The restaurant is pretty tiny, so there's usually a lineup outside at lunch (since it's much cheaper than dinner). The service is pretty quick though, so you will definitely finish your lunch before the lunch hour is up.
