Wildfire Steakhouse & Wine Bar

Update: Restaurant has closed.
July 22, 2018
*Items I would order again for Summerlicious

Escargot Provencale
Roasted garlic butter and escargots together make the tastiest combination - but it's really heavy.

Grilled Calamari
I love this appetizer! The calamari is perfectly grilled and the warm salsa is delicious with it.
Handmade Whisky Striploin Burger
An excellent burger

Caesar salad
I can't say I'm a fan of wedge salads in general - I'd skip this as an appetizer.

Crusted basa

Bavette steak
This was a really sad portion. I'm kinda disappointed by it.

Carrot cake
This was pretty good

Tartufo
I liked that they poured chocolate over it to make a coating as opposed to just chocolate powder.

April 3, 2016
Last time we were here, we saw some promotional signs advertising their Social Meet.

This was a great deal since most of their entrees are $20+ and their steaks are great!

Grilled Calamari
Their grilled calamari is probably the best I've eaten. The sweet tomato sauce, salty capers and grilled calamari (with lots of spices and flavour) combination works really well.

8 oz. New York Striploin
Not as nice as it was at our last meal, but it's also a promotional event going on - so I guess I can kind of understand.

Full Rack of Back Ribs
This was great! The sauce was sweet and savoury (which I prefer over smoky sauces) and it was such a huge rack that it spilled over the plate a bit! I'd definitely come back for their ribs.

March 29, 2016
I came back for my birthday steak (in the month of March)!
New York Striploin
This time I read the menu and noticed that you could add toppings to your steak like sauteed onions and garlic butter - so I took advantage of that.  The steaks were much better this visit than they were two weeks before (maybe it was the March break rush).

New York Striploin
Huge and so yummy with the garlic butter and sauteed onions!

March 13, 2016
Shrimp and Steak combination with shrimp skewers and a 6 oz. sirloin
The quality of the meat wasn't very good - it was stringy and tough.  The shrimp were nicely seasoned and the mashed potatoes were delicious as usual.

New York Striploin
The meat of the striploin was better than the steak served above. I like they way they season their meat and the grill marks look great on the striploins.

March 29, 2015
It felt a little darker inside Wildfire than previous years.
12 oz. Striploin
I really find that they do Striploins the best here at Wildfire. The meat is juicy and packed with flavour.  This year they added a dollop of aioli onto the steak.
The plate looks a little sad with the small baked potato and the grilled veggies seemed particularly oily this year.

16 oz. Striploin with mashed potatoes and veggies
The side dishes here were also a little sad looking - with the tiny bit of mashed potatoes on the huge plate and the oily vegetables (these didn't even seem grilled).
The experience this time didn't live up to the last time we went to Wildfire.

March 12, 2012

Love their bread and it usually comes accompanied by the most amazing garlic hummus ever! I credit this restaurant for starting my current obsession with hummus - mmmm delicious. The bread is always soft and warm and with the hummus, you can't go wrong.

They also have some amazing appetizers - the grilled calamari is probably the best I've ever had (we keep coming back for that and the steak) and the escargot Provencal with the garlic butter is delicious! (For an extra treat, try the bread + hummus + garlic butter, it's heavenly)

The Classic New York Striploin (12 oz)

The Porterhouse (20 oz)
I love the way they do their steak - it's always cooked well and I can trust them to do a good medium rare that is tender and full of flavour. It's a lot of meat and I think well worth it for $44 (excl. tax). The vegetables are always nicely cooked too - and they're seasonal which keeps it interesting (I love their grilled red peppers, yum!)

To celebrate my birthday, they gave us a free dessert! Mini chocolate covered ice cream - what a nice way to end the meal! Another dessert I love eating here is the Creme Brulee (They have an amazing dessert chef here)

Conclusion: This is one of my favourite steakhouses in Toronto. Slightly on the pricey side, but they serve consistently great food.

Laduree - Toronto

July 22, 2018
Two licorice macarons, pistachio macaron, passionfruit and another coconut lime

February 18, 2018
Pistachio, Licorice, Passionfruit and Coconut Lime
Of the macarons, I still love the licorice the best. The passionfruit macaron was really strong and the coconut lime's lime flavour was too subtle for me.

The really pretty store front

Pistachio and licorice macarons
The pistachio was good - it's very classic. LOVE the licorice macaron!

January 25, 2018
The first Laduree in Toronto is now at Yorkdale Mall!
Licorice macarons!
A lot of macaron companies do really good pistachio macarons, but licorice is a really hard flavour to come across and do well. Ever since I tried licorice macarons in Paris, I've been dying to have licorice macarons since - so I was super excited that Laduree was selling licorice macarons!
It was so good! Probably not as amazing as the regelise et violette macaron from Pierre Hermes, but it was a fantastic licorice macaron and I'll be back for more!

Zet's Restaurant

July 19, 2018

Chicken Souvlaki dinner
Huge portion of chicken souvlaki and lots of rice and salad for a take out portion.

t
Zet's Homeburger
Delicious as usual: a huge beef patty and all the condiments you want (including tzatziki)

November 21, 2015
Zet's went through a bit of re-branding and changed their colours! The theme is now black and gold.
We decided to try some other stuff on their menu (since we usually get the burgers).

Chicken Souvlaki Dinner
It was a huge portion for $15! The grilled chicken breast was super juicy and delicious and together with their spreadable tzatziki sauce - it was fantastic.  The salad was really fresh too with lots of feta and the potatoes and rice were great compliments to the whole meal. So good!

November 22, 2014
Finally! I've been meaning to come back to Zet's for years! (1) Because whenever I talk about burgers, I somehow always bring up Zet's and (2) They have amazing burgers and they make it even better with their tzatziki sauce. The problem? They're in Mississauga near the airport which is pretty far for me. Despite all my trips, I'm always in too much of a rush to and from the airport to actually swing by Zet's and grab a meal.
8oz Homeburger
The classic! A huge burger patty with fresh ingredients and a butter and toasted bun. And of course I got the Tzatziki sauce which just made it so much better! It's still as good as I remember! The prices went up a bit, but the portions are the same gigantic size.

I LOVE Zet's!! It's a super far drive for me to get there but it's totally worth the long trip out to Pearson airport for their burgers and chicken souvlaki. They make a great Tzatziki sauce and you can put the sauce on your burger too! (I substitute it for mayonnaise and ketchup in my burger). The portions are HUGE and you really get bang for your buck there. A hamburger (with a 5 oz patty) is $3.80 and a 8 oz Homeburger is $5.50 and they're put on massive toasted buns and garnished just the way you like it (don't forget the Tzatziki sauce!!!). The chicken souvlaki is $13.95 but it's huge! you have a separate plate of salad and these massive overgrown potatoes (double the size of Jimmy the Greek's).

Overall: I definitely recommend this place. It's super convenient if you're ever near the International Center or just near the airport - it's open 24 hours and it's quick service, what more could you ask for???

Agincourt Bakery

July 15, 2018
Pistachio cannoli!
Sadly, no neon green filling here. Just pistachios at the end. The shells were pretty crispy and chocolate-y and the ricotta was nice.

July 7, 2018
Gnocchi and Lasagna
Gnocchi were soft and doughy - the tomato sauce is pretty good, but it's on the tangy side.

Lots of layers in the lasagna!
It was pretty good - there was a lot of tomato sauce, would have preferred if there was more meat in the sauce to give it less of a tangy tomato flavour.

Butter tart with pecans

Chocolate cannoli and Italian flaky pastry with chocolate and icing sugar

Ricotta Cannoli
Good cannoli shell and yummy ricotta cheese. They have a pistachio cannoli (but they sold out)

Chicken parmigiana sandwich

May 1, 2018
I read the Blogto article on Agincourt Bakery and I couldn't believe I've never been here because I pass by this area sometimes.
They didn't have lasagna today :(

Veal and Chicken Parmigiana sandwiches (and extra sauce)
I liked the crispy Italian roll and the tomato sauce was pretty good (if a little tart). The chicken and veal were both good.
