3 Combination Medium Spicy Soon Tofu $13.39 each, Beef Bulgolgi with rice $13.39 and Fried Mandu $6.50
The medium spicy combination soon tofu soup comes with beef slices and seafood (mussels, clams, shrimp) and in comparison with the soon tofu soup at the Yonge and Finch location, this location's takeout (Ubereats) version of the soon tofu soup was really watery and not really packed with flavour, but there was a ton of oil on top. It had a lot of tofu, but not that much beef or seafood, which probably didn't help the overall flavour of the soup (since tofu doesn't have a strong flavour by itself).
The soup did come with a lot of purple rice though.
The beef bulgolgi was really sad: it was about 60% rice and maybe 30% beef. Taste-wise, the sauce for the stir fry was pretty good, but it definitely wasn't worth the $13.39 price tag.
The fried dumplings (mandu) were super tiny, but they were super crispy outside with a bit of meat inside.
The side dishes were okay, the pickled radish was a little watery but okay flavour wise. However, the kimchi was a miss, as it was really sour and watery.
Oct 22, 2014 @ Koreatown
We were lining up to see a movie at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema when the tickets sold out in front of us. So, we decided to just grab food in Koreatown instead. I go to the Yonge and Finch Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu location pretty frequently - it was nice to be able to go try the original location in the Annex.
Mild #1 Combo: Seafood and Beef Soon Tofu Soup
I can actually handle the Medium version, but I wasn't sure if the Koreatown location would be spicier - so I chose a less spicy version. Still delicious! The tofu is fresh and super soft and there were mussels, clams, shrimp and beef alongside my favourite purple rice.
Overall: Consistently great across Toronto! It's the perfect hot meal for a cold winters day. I also managed to make my friends fans of soon tofu after this meal too!
