 We got these as a gift from Hamilton:

Clockwise from top left: Salted Cookies and Cream, Pumpkin Spice, Matcha, Thai Tea, Vanilla

The vanilla was the best of the batch in my opinino, fluffy with great vanilla cream flavour and it was a really classic crispy (like pineapple bun) outside and soft whipped cream inside. The matcha was also really good with a strong matcha flavour. 

The Thai tea and pumpkin spice had good flavours (the pumpkin spice reminded me of the pumpkin spiced latte at Starbucks with more cinnamon flavour), but I wasn't really a fan of the salty and sweet cookies and cream. Pretty neat and fun flavours and something different.

The BBQ sauce was more sweet than savoury and I wasn't a big fan of it.

Pretty good deal since we got extra chicken and extra cheese on the medium pizzas (although they all had about the same cheese level except the meat lovers pizza)

We had a ton of leftover pizza that we froze to them pan fry another day (love that their crust retains its crispiness)!

I love meat pizzas since they're such strong flavours and I really like Pizza Hut's pan crust - it's so yummy!

Grilled Chicken Arrabbiata with Grilled Chicken Breast, Green Pepper, Red Onions, Roasted Red Peppers, Marinated Tomatoes

The pizza was a little spicy from the chili flakes and added a nice dimension to the regular pizza. I also really enjoyed the pesto marinated tomatoes as they made the pizza more pesto-y. I also found that Pizza Hut pizzas aren't as greasy as they used to be (the box was not full of grease after we finished devouring the slices).

The $10 pizza of the day on Fridays is Chicken Caesar

Alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, roasted garlic, parmesan and mozzarella

We decided to mix it up and got the homestyle crust, but after trying this pizza, we much prefer the classic pan crust that Pizza Hut is known for - it's tastier. The pizza was pretty good! I liked the alfredo sauce on the pizza.

Pizza Hut has a $10 medium pizza of the day promotion (online only). Thursdays are Supreme pizzas:

Pepperoni, sausage, beef, green peppers, mushrooms, onions and cheese

The pizza was so colourful! I forgot how good their pan crust was and it's not as super greasy as I remember (although there was a bit of grease) and it's pretty thick crust. There were also a lot of toppings which was pretty good and a good amount of cheese. 

0109 Dessert & Chocolate

Pistachio Tiramisu $9.99

A huge block of tiramisu with tons of pistachios on top - I'm not sure I was ready for this. The pistachios were salted and crushed but I found it made a strange contrast to the sweet tiramisu underneath. The tiramisu was okay, but it was a little on the dry side with lots of the ladyfingers and cake with some coffee liqueur taste and cream. It wasn't as heavy with the mascarpone cheese.

South Asia Malaysian Cuisine

 Our favourite Toronto Malaysian restaurant has been closed for a while, so I thought I'd try out a new place nearby. 

Malaysian Beef Curry with Roti Canai $13.50

I haven't had roti canai for a REALLY long time (basically since I was in Malaysia). This fried roti with the Malaysian beef curry and potatoes was pretty good and it complemented the dish really well by bringing out the flavour. The beef was tasty, but it would have been even better if it was braised/stewed for longer to make it more tender. The sauce was really on point with lots of layers and flavours. 

When we had the beef curry with plain white jasmine rice, the shrimp paste flavour and xo sauce was more obvious and tasted a little different from when we had it with the roti. 

Yu Garden

Pan Fried Dumplings (4 for $7.49) and Xiaolongbao (6 for $7.49) 

The restaurant was cash or debit only and they made for good snacks! 

The xiaolongbao had thicker skin than other xiaolongbao I've eaten. The meat flavour was okay, but there wasn't a lot of soup inside and they were rather small. The pan fried dumplings were really good with lots of meat flavour and soup inside and they had a nice pan fried crust and were super juicy!

Peanut Butter Fudge Core (part 2 from Loblaw's)

It was chocolate and peanut butter ice cream with mini peanut butter cuts and peanut butter fudge throughout the ice cream. It was sweet and salty at the same time from the salty peanut butter. I loved the peanut butter chocolate cups - those were great and my favourite part of the ice cream. The fudge was also pretty interesting and added a chewy thick texture with a heavy peanut butter flavour, but after a while it got more salty rather than sweet and tasted more like peanut butter than chocolate. It's a good ice cream for peanut butter lovers.

Loblaws had a sale on Ben & Jerry's Ice cream for $2.99 (if you were a PC member), so I grabbed two tubs.

I was attracted to the chocolate milk and cookies ice cream since it was 150 calories (probably a good thing so I don't gain too much Covid weight). However, the flavours were also super muted. 

 

The chocolate flavour was really mild and the vanilla flavour was barely there (I guess it makes sense that it's "chocolate milk"). The ice cream texture was okay, but it was on the harder side. The cookie dough was also only okay and didn't have a particularly strong or sweet flavour either. Overall, the ice cream was only okay - I probably wouldn't get this flavour again though since I like strong flavours.

Food Basics and Metro were selling Ontario Peach ice cream on sale for $3.99. The first week of the sale, it was sold out Food Basics and Metro near me, but I finally found it this week at Food Basics. 

Peach Ice cream

It was delicious and tasted exactly like what I expected from peach ice cream - sweet and peachy with chunks of peach as nice little surprises throughout the ice cream. The ice cream was also kind of soft which was nice (as opposed to those really frozen ice creams like Haagen-Dazs). No wonder it was sold out everywhere! This is definitely THE ice cream of the summer.

Haagen Dazs Ruby Cacao Ice Cream bars 3 x 72ml

Strawberry ice cream dipped in a sweet and kinda tart/sour/bitter (?) chocolate (ruby cacao) coating. I found it really sweet and the cacao was kind of strangely sour/bitter.

After my fill of ube ice cream, I started noticing all the different kinds of ice cream available in Toronto. Like the Righteous Gelato on sale at Longo's for $5.99 - so I got a tub of Earl Grey Lavender London Fog.

It tasted like milky/creamy earl grey tea and lavender flavour, so I could see why they would market it with all the descriptions since it had a subtle milky and diluted flavour, but it was definitely more strongly lavender and earl grey. I'm not too sure I'd get it again, but it was fun and interesting.
