Gourmet Mansion - Nanjing

Nanjing is famous for being a capital city (Six Dynasties, Ming Dynasty's first Emperors reign and even in 20th century history of the Republic of China) and educational center of China

Unfortunately, Nanjing has also seen and survived some of the worse events in Chinese History (Treaty of Nanking and the Nanking Massacre).

Confucius Temple Market & Qinhuai River

After doing some shopping at the Confucius Temple Market, we were taken to dinner:

Top - Bottom: Nanjing boiled salted duck, sticky rice and ribs, corn dish and egg white with clams
Nanjing is known for their salty duck and it's no wonder. The duck was really good! The meat was salty but not overwhelming and it was really tender without the wild game taste that duck usually has.
Also delicious was the egg white custard with clams. The clam shells were actually cooked into the dish and made the dish sweeter.

From the top: Spicy fish, vegetarian dish with fungi, mushrooms and bok choy and vermicelli with cabbage
The spicy fish was really spicy (to me), so I could barely handle a piece of fish. The vegetarian dish was really good, but the most surprising dish was the vermicelli and cabbage which was curry flavoured and a little spicy (I didn't expect that).

Sticky rice and ribs, egg drop soup with watercress and corn dish
The sticky rice was sweet (which was weird to me since I'm used to eating savoury sticky rice) and the ribs were mostly bones (a bit of a fail). As for the other dishes, the soup was a little on the salty side and the corn was okay.

Lastly, the potato shreds dish.
Super oily - I could barely taste the potatoes.

Overall: Loved the Nanjing Salty Duck! The rest of the meal was not as appealing.
